Tame Me (Zane Series #1) by J.L. Leslie

Goodreads review

Wren Davis has always been the responsible one. The caretaker. She’s always put her life on hold for others. When she takes a job as Stellan Zane’s housekeeper, she does it to take care of her sister. Her own life can wait. Only she wasn’t expecting to find him so irresistible…

Stellan Zane is used to getting what he wants, when he wants. No woman gets to him. No woman really knows about him or his past. When he lets his little sister hire him a housekeeper, Wren Davis is not what he was expecting. And she’s his employee. Yet, she’s what he wants…

Unable to fight their attraction, the two embark on a relationship that’s supposed to be uncomplicated. Allowing Wren to have the carefree life she’s never had and Stellan to enjoy the type of relationship he always gets. But when exes interfere, the unexpected happens and things become complicated, can Wren tame Stellan…and will he allow her to?

3 “An overabundance in drama” Stars.

This is one of the times where I wish that Goodreads would allow you to give half stars on a rating.

I struggled with this book a lot. So it is surprising that it gets 3.5 stars.

What I liked:

When the characters had interaction and talked with one another.

The sexual chemistry is strong

Wren’s struggles with her sister and what she has been through.

What I got stuck on.

Stellan and his brother Dylan.

Stellan being an absolute douchecanoe to women even if they are skanks.

What I didn’t like.

The extra drama (see spoilers below)

The inner monologue of both characters. It was tough going.

Now maybe this is just me but there were some occasions where I was confused at one moment Wren was eating Fruit Loops and then she was suddenly in the shower.

What I’d like to see.

I like Lennon. And will most likely read her book not too sure about Dylan though.
Not just a HFN with Stellan & Wren.

The overall plot gripped me and I was enjoying it and then it fizzled out.
When the story flowed then it flowed well. The author is talented and personally I think that she could have done a lot more with it.

All in all I would recommend this book but I would be prepared for the drama in the book. Oh and stick with it for the beginning cause that is a bit slow.

The Sapphire Affair (Jewel #1) by Lauren Blakely

Goodreads Review

Bounty hunter Jake Harlowe knows how to track a criminal. So when a group of swindled shareholders hires him to trail their former CEO, Jake expects a quick trip to the Cayman Islands to close another case. Until a devastatingly beautiful woman gets in the way.

Steph Anderson is visiting the Caymans for a rock climbing and dive trip—or so she tells Jake. She’s really trying to find out whether or not her stepfather embezzled money from his company. The last thing Steph needs is the distraction of a sexy, charming man whose kisses drive her wild.

Soon, the pair discover they’re after the same target—and millions in jewels. While Jake can’t be certain Steph isn’t working for her stepfather, and Steph can’t be certain Jake isn’t after the diamonds for himself, they can agree the heat between them is intense, and neither can deny the passion for long.

But the morning after, Steph discovers that she just might have slept with the enemy, and now she’ll have to outwit him to get everything she needs…

Well thank God Netgalley for finally approving my request to read this. Now I've got that off my chest I can continue with my review.

4.5 'Truth & Dare' Stars.

From the first word to the last word I was hooked.

“Fine, I knew you were a pain in the ass,” he added. “Gee, thanks.” “I knew you were going to drive me crazy.” “You drive me crazy, too.” She countered, parking her hands on her hips. “Sounds like we’re just about even then.”

This is an engaging, entertaining, exciting and excellent read. The story and the characters sucked me in with a fun and original plot a perfect book for reading at the beach.

Steph Anderson is finally getting her business back on track after her ex nearly ruined her just out of spite nothing more nothing less. Steph's next trip is to the Caymans.

Side note if there is one place I've always wanted to go then it would be the Caymans. I'd go for the weather, 364 days of sun and let's not forget the lack of taxes

Steph is trying to find out what happened to the money her stepdad never gave back to her mother after the divorce. He just so happens to live on the Caymans so she travels a couple of days earlier to start her search with the contacts she has.

Jake Harlowe is a retrieval expert. He has retrieved a lot of priceless items for very influential people. After acquiring the violin back his next job is to find out what happened to the money of a hedge fund. It leads him to the Caymans and in the Pink Pelican, the happy turtle meets the Tommy Barharma. His number one rule? Don’t mix business and pleasure as that got him in hot water a long time ago. He finds out who Steph is and well he thinks that she is playing him.

In the end they decide to work together.

They are good together I loved their interaction the whole book was foreplay for the last scene of the book for both of them. He is a dream.

“You deserve someone who craves the taste of your lips. The feel of your body. Most of all, a woman like you deserves a man who understands the three-to-one ratio.”

“What’s that?” He brushed her blond strands away from her ear, cupped a hand over it, and whispered, “I would make you come three time before I even do once.”

My one complaint is that maybe it could have been one book instead of two I really hope I get the next one you hear me Netgalley? More specifically Montlake Publishing? Pretty please? With Jake Harlowe on top?

I hang my head in shame this is my first Lauren Blakely book. Why haven't I read any others? Well to date none of those interested me. But then this beauty came and well I might have to back track and read some of her other books.

I'm not happy about that cliffhanger ending.

Our Song (The Wilder Books #1) by Savannah Kade

Goodreads Review
JD Hewlitt gave up the good life.

He quit his high-stress job, sold his high-rise condo, and left his high-maintenance girlfriend behind to start over in Nashville. Three years later, his band Wilder is still struggling for the recognition they deserve and his hopes aren’t what they used to be. Out of the blue he gets a call that an ex-girlfriend passed away – leaving him a child he didn’t know he had. To make matters worse, his six year old daughter, Andie, is a demon.

Kelsey Conklin never had the good life.

She’s always taken care of everyone and everything around her, including her entire family. But now it’s just her and her two kids. She’s packed up her past and moved them all to Nashville to start over. All she really wants is a quiet life and she’s pretty sure she knows how her story works.

But JD and Andie need her. And it turns out that she and her kids need them, too. Somewhere along the way, JD becomes something she can’t live without, and something she never thought she’d have.

With a little ingenuity, they can make this work. And maybe JD knows what she needs better than she ever did. . . .

I'm really not entirely sure how to rate this book. This is a slow burner romance and when I mean slow, I really mean slow. It went at a snails pace which isn't necessarily bad.
I enjoy how the author’s main focus is on the family and friends aspect and how success comes second but also plays an important part.
JD is trying to hit the big time with his band but on top of leaving his cushy job he then finds out that he has a daughter. What I liked is that we see JD with when he already has Andie and that he can’t cope at all. He has no idea what to do with a five year old. All is not what it seems with Andie but sometimes it is about doing the right thing in life more than anything else.
Kelsey is a one of a kind woman. She has taken care of everyone in her life but no one has ever taken care of her. After the death of Andrew she has been going through the motions while moving to Nashville she looks after Daniel and Allie her children. Her family background is complicated to say the least.
While at Target she sees the temper tantrum that Andie throws and takes pity on JD. Turns out they are neighbors. Small world right?
Throughout their interaction with one another and getting to know one another they become closer but due to the friendship they start to have feelings for one another.
There were times where they just couldn’t get their heads out of there arses. Those times were often and my kindle nearly suffered under their pig-headedness.  But I can say that it drove me bat shit crazy well the main characters did at least. I was inpatient and they were just prolonging the inevitable.
Usually I don't like the whole older woman, younger man even it is only about two year difference but this was surprisingly good.
In my personal opinion I thought the book could have been shorter with the story tightened up here and there. There was too much or their daily routine. I can't imagine how hard that must be to balance out. There were also times where I got confused with all the names that were similar Andie was JD’s kid which was ok. But the author kept on chucking Andi/Andrew in for the one character. Please stick to one name.
A good, strong start to a promising series. My most anticipated book is either Alex/TJ. So that means if you haven't figured it out then I will continue with the series once the others are out.
So after a week of not getting my head out of me arse and thinking how to rate it I have decided to give it 3.5 Stars.

Captive's Kiss (Watcher's Kiss #3) by Sharon Kay

Goodreads review

It was only supposed to be one hookup. One hot night to ease the mating urge of his race’s fertile period.

But after scorching, up-against-the-wall sex in a darkened club, Tanner can’t get Saige out of his mind. And when he spots her the next day, in league with an enemy, he’s determined to uncover more about her than her delectable curves.

Saige knows Tanner is one of the good guys. And that’s why she can never see him again.

Her life has crumbled into a horrific turmoil, forced to aid criminals in kidnapping men for bloody arena fights. Held against her will, she has no hope of escape from her captors.

Determination rages through Tanner until he tracks Saige down. But rescuing her from her jailers’ sadistic whims means entering her underground hell. Posing as her victim and locked in a cell, he must find a way to save them both before he is pushed into a fight to the death.

The Watcher’s Kiss is one of my favourite series although I didn’t sync with her other series I can’t get enough of this series.

Novellas are a hit and miss but because I love this series I just had to read it.

Tanner is a Watcher of the realm and it is the solstice where hormones run high for the demons especially the Lash Demons at a club Tanner smells something tantalising that he has to go after it. It turns out it is a female Lash Demon. Saige is in trouble she has two objectives one to ease her tension and the best one is Tanner and two to find someone to bring back to the underground fighting ring as she has a power to influence other demons if she doesn’t do it then her brother will be thrown in the ring and killed.

I love the world building of the author and for the fact that is always hard to have a solid novella without it being rushed this was a job well done.

I can’t wait for the series to continue.

Pieces (Patchworks, #1) by T. Aleo

Goodreads review
In New York City, an underground society of supernatural beings exists, hidden among everyday humans. They don’t know of our activities or any of our secrets.

The districts of the Works are made up of vampires, wolves, shifters, witches, and I’m in the fifth and arguably most important district, the Patchwork. My father is the leader of our group, and he oversees all of the other factions.

As his only daughter, that makes me the princess of it all. Cool, right? Actually…no.
Sure, I live in a mansion and money isn’t an object, but that doesn’t matter because I can’t leave. I have a guard who follows me around 24/7. My father and three older brothers treat me like I’m a fragile piece of glass, never allowed to take an independent step or make any decisions on my own.
It’s beyond frustrating—especially since my father essentially runs my life.
He says what I do, when I do it, how I do it, and all that jazz. He tests his formulas and new techniques on me. I’m a walking science experiment.
I hate it.
I hate my life here.

But then he comes along: Killian.
He’s just some vampire…or so I thought.

But you’ll have to read my story to find out what I mean. To know my secrets.
Until then, though, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rebecca von Stein.
And I’m a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein.

Welcome to the Works.

Opening sentence:

One shot to the heart, and unlike him or my brothers, I would bleed, and they wouldn't be able to bring me back. Because I'm only half a descendeant of Dr Frankenstein.

3 Being a ninja is hard stars.

Where this plot is interesting with Frankenstein and his descendants and I was fully emerged in the story. Okay so I did skim a bit because Rebekkah ramblings were like a broken record. Although Rebekkah is meant to be nearly twenty this had a very strong YA vibe to it. I love the world that has been created in New York. Welcome to the Works. Where there are five factions the witches, the shifters, the vampires, and the patchwork clan ruler. This book does end in a cliffy. I can see this turning into a very promising series.

I stumbled across this book on Netgalley the blurb sounded really good. After being approved the author‘s name T. Aleo rang a very loud bell in my head. I'm glad you ask why because she is Toni Aleo of the Assassins series the one series where she writes heroines that drive me bat shit crazy. She has a real talent for the I could poke your eyes out, I want to poke your eyes but you're unfortunately a fictional character so I just can't poke your eyes out.

I like to think that I’m a person that can go into a book with an open mind. The heroine was tolerable but in small dosis.

I know this is ridiculous and I got to say it is the one thing that really bothered me was that she was given man legs. I shit you not. It bugged me whole way through the book.

Claim Me (Capture Me, #3) by Anna Zaires

Goodreads review
She’s on the run.Yulia Tzakova’s freedom comes at a heavy price. Her former captor dominates her dreams, and survival consumes her waking moments. She may have escaped, but she’s far from safe.

In the shadowy world of spies and betrayal, nothing is what it seems.

He’s obsessed with getting her back.

Lucas Kent’s rage knows no bounds. The danger of his job occupies his days, but hunting down Yulia is what he lives for. When he finds her, she’ll never escape again.

He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her.

4.5 Yuila & Lucas stars.
First & foremost this CANNOT be read as a standalone. And it took me ages to write this review. It most likely won’t do the book justice but you gotta try, right?
This is conclusion to Yulia & Lucas's story. There are some books that must be savored this is one of them. Alas I tried to here but I couldn't I gobbled it up. I loved nearly every single moment of it.
Did I get the closure to this series that I wanted? Yes & No.
I also had a goofy smile on my face. Try telling people on the tram that you're not a psychopath.
From the first sentence to the last sentence I was hooked.
“Say that again?” I grip the phone tighter, nearly crushing it as my disbelief morphs into burning fury. “What the fuck do you mean she escaped?”
As you can gather Yulia escapes she is desperate to get back to the Ukraine and to her brother. Through the separation she realizes how attached she has become to her jailor no matter how wrong it feels. Her heart aches for him. She doesn’t understand why though.
I’m in love with a man who has every reason to despise me-a man who scares me to my very soul.
I still find Yulia to be one of my favorite heroines of all time. She is still strong although she develops throughout the book she stays strong but still changes in defined ways. They are subtle but there. Yulia made a mistake and compromised the organization URR it’s a close call. She did completely think that plan out to the end but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Lucas is well Lucas. We see how he changes throughout the book how he becomes more obsessed with Yulia How he is also violently possessed with her and how he can’t let go although he tries and what he wants. He is still a hard arse but he has a nurturing, soft side to him. Yulia is his beautiful, treacherous obsession.
There is a cross over with what happened in Chicago just from Lucas POV. I think there is something wrong with me to be honest. Whereas I don't think it was meant to entertaining or even funny I couldn't help not be amused by it and outright laugh on the tram.
Maybe I have a strange sense of humor actually I definitely have a strange sense of humor.
The penny finally drops for Lucas about bloody time as well.
“Who is he to you?” Yulia’s eyes widen. “You don’t know? But you said-““I think it’s possible I misunderstood,” – You think Lucas?
They are perfect for one another. I love them together. They fit. Lucas is a randy bastard though and I love how he put Yulia first.
“There is no happily ever after for people like us”.
But in this case maybe there just is.
“It’s not tender or pretty like I thought it would be. Some might even say it’s ugly. But it’s us. It’s our reality, our version of perfect.
There are a lot of things I didn't see coming. Yulia's demons from the past. Full of lies, deceit and betrayal. And yet over and over again she sacrifices herself for her brother and Lucas. She doesn’t know any differently.
Cute that Nora thinks she's playing with the big boys. She only can thanks to Julian. Lucas stands between Yulia & Julian Esguerra by going their separate ways. You know the whole she took the plane down I mean you could have forgiven her but no things have to be complicated. So he nearly died it wasn’t personal. But it turns out true loyalty had to be rarer than unicorns in the arm dealer’s world.
Lucas is a man of very few words but the words he does say, le sigh
“You’re my reason for existing now.” His eyes glitter fiercely “You’re my everything [….] even when I hated you, I loved you.”
The ending for Yulia & Lucas felt pretty anti-climactic. There is a bonus scene with Julian & Nora but I felt that it didn't fit in here at all.
I would have liked to have seen a bonus scene based solely on the main characters of this book.
So Ms. Zaires what's up next? When will we get Peters book? Do I see a book with Jared Winters, the portfolio manager and Rosa? Although I'm not a fan of Rosa at the moment. But I’m sure that Ms. Zaires will wave her magic wand and rock it. Will we see a book with Misha?

Seared on My Soul, By Cole Gibsen

Goodreads Review

She’s so young, so full of life…

I couldn’t let her die…

Even if she made the world’s worst coffee.

Emily Garret never asked to be rescued, let alone by a walking JCrew ad whose idea of fun is probably managing his stock portfolio and watching the nightly news. Then again, she never thought she would wind upside-down in a ditch after a night having a little too much fun.

Reece Montgomery never planned on being anyone’s hero, especially the foul-mouthed, bleach-blonde barista from the local coffee shop. He thinks there’s more to Emily than her tattoos, and lip ring, but getting close means letting her into his past and meeting his ghosts. And he’s not sure she’s ready for that battlefield.

3/4 stars.

I loved the premise of this book and for me in a way the author delivered but also didn’t but I’ll get to that later.

Emily Garrett is the life of the party and I can only recommend that you push past the first chapter because I despised her. She is judgemental, always out for a good time. Most would consider her to be a slut as she likes sex and I like that the author made us aware of the double standards that are still around today. That aspect of her life didn’t bother me at all. She has her positive characteristics and well you just have to find them.

One fateful night she really screws up. But she doesn’t seem to have learnt her lesson in that respect or maybe not at the beginning. Looks can be deceiving and that is exactly what she does with the Hero of the book she judges him. She is abrasive and brutally honest. And about to self-destruct.

Reece Montgomery is lost and he has this whole tortured soul going on. I loved him. He knows what he wants from life but has survivor’s guilt. He wants to live a life but can’t quite get there.
Reece has demons that he fights every day since he has been back. He has no contact with his parents. I understood Reece’s demons. Emily also has her own demons. She loathes herself and considers herself to be a loser. I felt that we only scratched the surface with Emily and her demons and would have liked to have seen more.

Reece & Emily are an unlikely couple look wise. We have the Jcrew and we have the 60s pinup, rockabilly lady. But they also have a lot in common. I loved them together.

They have chemistry and they complete one another. Good combination Ms. Gibsen. Bravo.
So obviously they push each other away but the get there and there is a happy ending. I will want to read the book about Emily’s brother Lane & Ash. This is also a quick and easy read as soon as I started it I had finished it.

Don't Wake the Dead (The Wraith Files #1) vy C.C. Wood

Goodreads review
My name is Zoe Thorne and I'm just an ordinary woman. My life is mundane, and that's perfectly fine with me; I work a boring job, watch TV, read books, and sleep alone. There's nothing special about me.

Except that I can see ghosts.

After suffering years of rejection due to my freakish ability, I'm determined to hide my "gift" from others. That is until I meet Malachi Flemming and his peculiar yet amusing friends. Mal hosts a paranormal web show titled The Wraith Files and when he discovers my talent, he offers me a job. Well, offer may not be the right word.

He won't take no for an answer.

One night, we stumble across a spirit on the side of a deserted, country road. He seems lost and scared, convinced someone murdered him. Mal's interest is piqued and he insists on helping me investigate the accident. The deeper we dig, the clearer it becomes that the killer doesn't want us to discover the truth.

Desperate people will go to any lengths to keep their secrets buried. Sometimes it's best not to wake the dead unless you plan to join them.

What a hidden gem this book turned out to be. I really don't want to share this with all you peeps. But if you request a book and in honour of the author then you unfortunately love a bbok then you must write a review.

I love this book. There is nothing like a good paranormal/ghost hunting story to get you out of your near book slump. But even without being in a near book slump I would still have loved every second.
Ms. Wood had me at “Leave me alone. And don’t ever lick my face again, asshole.”
Zoe Thorn is a great heroine. She is quirky, sarcastic & smart. But she hasn't been living the life she should. She is the town peculiar.
Why you ask? Well let me tell you.
At the age of five her heart stopped beating. No one knows why. Luckily her neighbour resuscitated her. Since the incident she has seen things and hears things.

Zoe has resigned to lead a boring life in the small town of Kenna, Texas. The best stories take place in small towns if done well. Trying to lead a normal life while ignoring her gift as best as she can isn't turning out too well.
Malachi xxx has a YouTube channel called the Wraith Files.  Rumours have it that there is a haunted home in Kenna which leads him straight to Zoe Thorn and her resident ghost Teri. But Mal isn’t alone he has his trusty buddies Blaine & Stony.
Teri is a riot.
”I wonder what he wants to talk to me about,” I mused to myself. “Hopefully, mutual nudity.” I shot a dirty look at Teri. “What is it with you and your obsession with my sex life?” She shrugged one shoulder. “One of us should have one and you’re the only one with a pulse.”
They shoot at Zoe’s house when all comes out Mal offers her a job and won’t take no for an answer.
One night on a drive home Henry Jacob Murphy is waiting at the roadside. He has for the past twenty years. They set off to solve a twenty year old murder.  Full of suspense and banter especially the interaction with the main and the secondary characters.
I heard the connecting door between the two rooms fly open. “Dude, why are you yelling at her?” Blaine asked. “We want her to work with us, not take out a restraining order.”
The one thing I was disappointed about was Mal & Zoe not getting enough time and this is a pure assumption right now but as this will be a series we’ll be seeing more of them.
I can’t wait for the next book especially with this ending.
She was still here. Of the myriad of women he’d known all those years ago, she was his favourite. She’d fought the noose fiercely, even with the drugs he’d pumped into her system.
While the hunt wasn’t as enjoyable as the kill, he hadn’t experienced this thrill in thirty years. And he had nothing but time.
