"The Asset" by Anna del Mar

Anna del Mar’s explosive, sexy debut novel in the Wounded Warrior series, perfect for fans of Lisa Marie Rice and Lora Leigh—the story of a woman desperate to escape her dangerous past and the navy SEAL who would lay down his life to save her. Ash Hunter knows what it is to run. A SEAL gravely injured in Afghanistan, he’s gone AWOL from the military hospital. Physically and mentally scarred, he returns home to his grandmother’s isolated cottage—and finds a beautiful, haunted stranger inside.

Like recognizes like.

Lia Stewart’s in hiding from the cartel she barely escaped alive, holed up in this small Rocky Mountain town. Surviving, but only just. Helping the wounded warrior on her doorstep is the right thing to do…it’s loving him that might get them both killed.

Soon, Ash realizes he’s not the only one tormented by the past. Pushing the limits of his broken body, testing the boundaries of her shattered soul, he’ll protect Lia until his last breath.

Ms. Del Mar’s first novel is fantastic start to a new series. It is emotional and not for the faint hearted as there are some triggers in the book mainly rape, pedophilia and physical and mental abuse among other things. Now I have when involving children so to be honest I skipped that part of the book. I have a vivid imagination so I don’t need that in my life.

Ash Hunter did a hospital break as they were threatening to remove part of his leg due to infection. He lands on Lia’s front doorstep with a shotgun to his face.

Lia is scarred from her past and leery of men things start to change when she meets Ash. Lia becomes Ash’s caregiver in exchange for no questions and protection for the moment from a mountain lion but the one who is still looking is a lot more dangerous.

I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll leave it at the review that I’ve posted. Consider it short and sweet, this review not the book.

Ms. Del Mar writes well and it flows well with humor and banter making me smile at the beginning. Now I personally think that this is worth a read so go get a copy. Pronto!
Now this is just me but I really want to read some romantic suspense with different characters not always the same old, same old.

This is my personal opinion therefore it should be taken at face value, nothing more, and nothing less.

"An Ounce of Hope" (A Pound of Flesh #2) by Sophie Jackson

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1303080087

From the fanfic phenom whose debut A Pound of Flesh had over 4.5 million reads, this sequel, An Ounce of Hope, tells the passionate love story of Carter’s best friend, Max.

Max O’Hare can’t seem to let go of his past: his drug habit, the end of his relationship with Lizzie Jordan, the woman he knows he’ll never get over, and the loss of their unborn son.

After successfully completing rehab and learning to explore his deepest fears and dreams through painting, Max meets Grace Brooks. With her innate optimism, and her love of art and photography, Grace appears to be the perfect girl. Yet no one knows where she came from, or why she keeps her past so closely guarded. Over time, Max and Grace gradually allow each other in—but will he ever be able to fully let go of his past? Or will his heart remain closed forever?

Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us. –Samuel Smiles-

This is the second book in the series, I loved A Pound of Flesh and when it came to Max I was intrigued. And in all honesty I didn’t think that Ms. Jackson would have been able to pull it off.

This was the ending of book 1 which made me so intrigued about Max.

Carter reached out and pulled him into a tight embrace as Max sobbed onto his jacket. "Don't leave me like she did. Help me," Max begged. "You're all I have left. Please. For Christ's sake, help me"

His solo battle against the coke addiction had been valiant but short-lived.

4 Hershey’s Kisses Eyes & Starshine Stars.

Ms. Jackson writes about some sensitive themes in this book, one being the choice of suicide, strong drug abuse. It deals with the effects on people’s lives and on your own life.

Max O’Hare can’t come to terms with his past. In the end Carter helps him in to a rehab programme at the beginning it is hard for him. It was also hard for me to see what he went through. He has experienced a lot of loss in his life, his father, the death of his son Christopher which is tragic and last but not least that Lizzie left him without a word. He deserved more, more than silence.

His progress is slow and he tries to merge himself into the real world again. In New York with his friends, his auto shop and his former life. But there are too many triggers so he leaves.

Grace Brooks, lovely Gracie Brooks who is full of life, optimism. She has moved to West Virginia. She wants a new start and has bought a house. Grace is full of life and has a truly positive outlook on life. Grace has scars on the inside and on the outside but it shows what she survived. It has been twenty eight months since she last experienced something for a man.

I was wondering how Max and Grace were going to cross paths and well he turns up in West Virginia to stay with this uncle. Grace is smitten with him. He is an enigma, a past of drugs and car boosting and bullets. He wants to better though. He is his own worst enemy but beneath it all he is compassionate and kind.

They decide on being friends with benefits but it is clear that it won’t stay that way. They have great chemistry although he can be an absolute douche but he does have an attitude adjustment.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom in the book there were funny moments as well.

All goes it expected they don’t label their relationship. Max gets his closure with Lizzie but realises that he loves Grace.

The copy that I received in an exchange for a honest review could have been better. There were two copies packed in to one file. Also all words that started with “th” were missing the “th” which after a while became slightly tedious.

All in all Ms. Jackson is a talented writer and I really do hope we see more of the Moore brothers, especially Tate and Riley.

"Diverging Cadence" by Katie Hamstead

Click me to see the review on Goodreads

When Cadence Anderson woke to find her husband and infant daughter had been killed, she thought her life was over. Instead, she was offered a second chance and sent back in time to do it all again.

She’s made the most of this opportunity, repairing her relationship with the best friend she lost the first time, avoiding the romantic mistakes she made originally, and even bringing her family closer together. But she’s also done something she wasn’t planning on—she’s fallen in love with someone other than her future husband.

Stepping onto a plane and flying across country to attend university is the hardest decision she’s had to make. But unless she follows through with it, her future with Austin might never happen. And what becomes of her beautiful baby if she stays with James, the man she was never supposed to love?

The only thing she knows for certain is that she has to see Austin again, and she’s intent on reliving that part of her previous life exactly like she did the first time. Even if that means she has to lie to James to do it. Because, deep down, she can’t quite bring herself to let him go.

Now, past and future are about to collide, and Cadence has to make her final choice—follow the uncertain path of a life with James, or the one she came back to save . . . with Austin.

Between finishing book 1 and before starting book 2 my feelings were all over the place. I wanted to read book 2 but equally I didn’t want to read it because I loved James.
In the end I took a leap and started reading it. I was quite antsy about it to be honest.
This is a very emotional book and I strongly suggest that you don’t read it in public. I thought that I wouldn’t like Austin and Cadence as a couple but they were great together. I know that it was confusing for Cadence to love two people equally and at one point in my life I was in the same position. Long story and completely off topic here.
To relive the memories with Austin and to know the outcome is pretty tough to deal with. I’m not a fan of cheating and Cadence clearly cheated on James. I got the ending that I thought I would get so all in all I’m happy enough. I give this book 3.5 stars.

"View To A Kill" (The Nostradamus Prophecies #1) by Lisa Hughey

Coming January 18, 2016 The first installment in Lisa Hughey's brand new series: The Nostradamus Prophecies. A paranormal romantic suspense series featuring remote viewing, spies, secret babies, bad guys, and three deliciously intense former military heroes who now do covert ops for the CIA.
Every night Mari Johnson’s dead brother visits in her dreams. The CIA tells her his death was a suicide, but she refuses to believe it. There’s no way he’d leave her again. But if she can’t trust the shadow organization that her brother worked with for answers, then she’ll turn to turn to his surprisingly sexy partner instead…the man who was with him when he died.

Every night Nik Stanley relives the night he watched his best friend die. In vain, he battles the guilt that haunts him. As a member of Project Specter, a program that uses people with paranormal talents for intelligence gathering, he can’t shake the feeling that he should have known that something was wrong.

But when Mari and Nik join forces, the pair are thrown a little too close together, and their digging only draws the attention of powerful enemies that would do anything to keep their secrets hidden.

I’m not entirely sure what to think about this book. I went into it with virtually no expectations. Guess what? I really enjoyed it. This is romantic suspense with a twist of paranormal tied in with prophecies that were made by Nostradamus which made it utterly unique and a pleasure to read.
There were many twists and turns so I never knew what was going to happen. It is well written and engaging.
Marisol Johnson has been dreaming about her twin John who died in a special ops mission with specter. Nik was on the other side of the roof watching what was happening and it looked as if John committed suicide but through the dreams that wasn’t the case. We have conspiracy theories and the main characters had chemistry.
I personally didn’t like Hawk and Kel but mainly for the fact that they didn’t believe Nik. I felt as if they abandoned him.
So you’re probably wondering how Nostradamus is involved with all this, right? Well he and a friend wrote the book of predictions and through the book, what was written down and the diagrams etc. His granddaughter Sylvie was to stop them with Leonardo. It is a race against time. They get the truth this time but there is always a next time.
There were some things that bothered me thus being
There was a photo on Mari’s father’s desk and I felt as if it there was an emphasis that it had to have been of importance but in the end it was mentioned again.
Why is it always the Russians? I personally would have liked to have seen a bigger picture of what was to come maybe that will happen in the next upcoming books. I will most certainly read them. In my opinion the book could have been longer to fill in some more gaps and to create a secure foundation. This is also my opinion that the end just fizzled out. I turned the next page and it was over. Say what?
If you want something different then I can only recommend this book!

"Love in the Light" by Laura Kaye

Two hearts in the darkness…

Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. Makenna hopes that night put them on the path to forever—which can’t happen until she introduces her tattooed, pierced, and scarred boyfriend to her father and three over-protective brothers.

Must fight for love in the light…

Haunted by a childhood tragedy and the loss of his family, Caden never thought he’d find the love he shares with Makenna. But the deeper he falls, the more he fears the devastation sure to come if he ever lost her, too. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…

This book has been a long time coming. As book one was exceptional to most of us I think are expectations are extremely high. This is the continuation of Makenna and Cayden’s love. It is set two months later after they meet in the elevator.
Makenna and Cayden are going strong and as a couple I loved them together. Makenna is so very understanding. I would have liked her to at least flip a bit. But then again towards Cayden that would have been the wrong thing to do. Makenna was great in this book and I loved her. Her love for Cayden was strong.
It was time to meet Makenna’s family for Thanksgiving which was hard for Cayden but he did manage, everything went relatively smoothly. But her brother Ian had the ingenious idea to invite her ex, Cameron as well. They were to be married and he wanted Makenna to give up her job to support him in becoming a surgeon. Ah, that would be a big fat no!
Then the idiot thinks that after three years of no contact that he should declare his undying love to her just because Makenna has moved on? Not only has that he asked her to marry him. Really what are you stupid? There is a big fat sign that, that ship has sailed. Makenna’s brother should have just been happy for her and I really didn’t get what is problem was. Clue me in if anyone knows why he acted like a prat.
Cayden has suffered from PTSD since the accident where he lost his brother and mother. That same day his father died himself inside leaving Cayden to fend for himself. He lacks self confidence in the relationship and shit goes to hell. He thinks that he isn’t enough even when Makenna tells him that she loves her and that they should move in together.
While I was reading this book I checked out some reviews and one was that they thought that Cayden had too many issues. Every person has the right to their opinion but I would like to say that he had PTSD that also made him slip in to clinical depression. It is a tough hole to climb out of again.
I got the happily ever after that I wanted to satisfy me with this two part book. But I reckon it won’t be for everyone.
The one thing that did bother me was that the scene should have been written in where Makenna tells Cameron to go shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.
Bravo Ms. Kaye and thank you for writing this book.

"Assassin's Kiss" by Sharon Kay

Warrior Scorpio finds himself alone on a botched op. No weapons, no communication devices, injured…and instantly recognized by a group of witches who want him dead.

Witch Tessa promises to marry a rival leader to save her people. But she never planned on the new prisoner in her coven. Scorpio, a rough, former mercenary makes the outrageous claim that she belongs to him.

Even from behind bars, the longer Scorpio stays, the more he unsettles Tessa and she questions all she thought she knew. Choosing him will put everyone she cares for at risk. He’s nothing like she expected, and the last thing she could dare to want.

                                    5 T & S Stars.

„I curse you now, demon. One day you will meet your destined mate. The very instance that you are in her presence, you will recognize that she is your other half, your female, and you will be seized with the need to claim her. You will ache with your need to complete the bond. But she…” the witch’s voice grew low, “she will despise you for the monster you are. She will avoid you as if you are poison to her. You will be in agony, demon. Let it be done!”

After a botched operation in Tainted Kiss, Scorpio is teleported to Bronwy he is severely injured and is captured by the witch’s coven where he once assassinated the chief mage Pennar, he was being blackmailed by a Dalamos, his mercenary skills in exchange for not hurting his brother and sister. He is to be bought to judgement by the village. They call him a murderer which is true. Half the village wants him dead and the other half doesn’t know what to do with him.

He is dangerous so they lock him up with dampening spells and gloves that let him from using his demonfire. He won’t leave as much as he wants to because he has smelt honeysuckle, the sign that he will have found his mate. As he is a lash demon he has the skills to run but doesn’t.

With his job being completed he didn’t realize the consequences of his actions. The village had lost so much the former village sat on dark ley lines with magic and only Pennar was strong enough for the dark magic to stay contained that is until the Vespera took over and dark magic also spread into their village.

Tessa is one of the most powerful witches in the coven. She has the affinity to metals. She wants to do right by her people. This means marrying the narcissistic bastard Damien from the Vespara coven. Scorpio isn’t happen about that but over time he proves himself to Tess and the village. She isn’t his biggest fan to begin with but that soon changes after he saves her life twice and Tessa gets to know him.

I loved all the characters in this book, be it the main or secondary characters. I loved the plot and the humor of the book.

“Ah, yes. Well this demon isn’t leaving.” With that Winston shuffled to a leather chair and lowered his slight frame. “Nope, we need to keep him See how helpful he is?” Tessa gave Scorpio an apologetic shrug. “Keep him? He’s not a stray dog.” “You know what I mean”

After two weeks he contacts the Watcher’s HQ to tell him that he is still alive and about the current situation that he has found his mate.

“Shit. I guess, congratulations are in order?” “Ehh, not yet. She’s not totally on board with the idea.”

To get Tess back. The Watcher’s pull out the big guns. Whysper the resident witch is kick ass and the ending was the best. Tessa was a bit naive when it came to the whole ending with Damien and her being kidnapped.

Can a leopard change his spots?

As long as the core of the person is solid then there are really no spots that need to be changed by said leopard.

I can’t wait for this series to continue.

"Marrying Mr. English" by Katy Regnery

The Blueberry Lane Series Book 11

You’ve all met the children and Eleanora and Tom English… but how exactly did down-on-her-luck waitress, Eleanora Watters, meet trust fund hottie, Tom English?

You won’t want to miss this Christmas novel in two parts (each a complete novella – the first is a “Happily for now” ending and the second is a “Happily ever after” ending) that tells the story of how Eleanora met Tom, while he was visiting Vail in the 1980s.

I wasn’t going to read Marrying Mr. English although I love this series I just think that I wouldn’t have liked it. I was wrong Ms. Regnery writes wonderful books and this one was no different.

4 a modern fairytale stars.

Once upon a time, in a far way land, in Vail Colorado, it was a snowy December in 1981 (my birth year so it can only be frigging awesome) There was a hard working twenty something year old her name was Cinderella, ah I mean Eleanora Watters, with her slightly ditzy, really ditzy cousin Evie Marie.

Evie was forever looking for her knight in shining armor, her chance for true love came with Van, but Van had a fellow knight, really a prince, Tom English, who needed to be occupied so that Evie and Van could seal the deal.

Tom English a strapping thirty something year old, was about to lose his inheritance, yes peasants even Princes can become poor. To achieve his girl he was to be betrothed but his bride to be ran off with someone else not that love was involved.

But when Tom saw Eleanora his view changed unbeknownst to him at that moment he already fell in love. Eleanora however wasn’t interested but Evie was persistent. Elizabeth Barrett Browning brought them closer. Through their passion for literature and poetry their souls recognized a kindred spirit. Eleanora wants to help Tom so she agrees to become betrothed. They had to Vegas and tie the knot.

Their coming together was something between a miracle and a dream. It was a simple transaction but their falling in love was not.

They meet the King, err I mean the Grandfather (mean old bastard) to receive the inheritance but the King, err I mean the Grandfather denied the Prince. Either the commoner was to be gone or the money would be gone. He choose love and never regretted it. They lived a hard but happy life and the King admitted he was wrong.

They had breakfast for dinner. Five strapping sons. They loved, they laughed, through thick and thin they have had thirty five beautiful years of marriage with many more to come. They lived their happily ever after but the moral of the story “But I warn you, the course of true love never did run smooth”

                                                                       THE END

This is a fun book to read. It is sweet, feel good full of awesome banter it’s a book to pick your Spirits up. With a quirky heroine and a Hero who goes with the flow in this books. For a feel good I’d really recommend this one.
